  Xi Lin Wins ASU Tournament of Excellence

  TEMPE, Ariz. — Yesterday, the Tournament of Excellence, a round robin held annually before the ASU Southwest Championships, concluded with a final round between Brophy College Preparatory School’s Frank Willett and Desert Vista High School’s Xi Lin. On a 5-0 decision, the panel — Adam Nelson, Shyam Nair, Tim Sowers, Asha Sharma, and Jim Thorpe — awarded the championship to Xi. Preliminary rounds of the Southwest Championships themselves conclude today, with the awards ceremony to be held this evening. Elimination rounds will commence tomorrow morning with octafinals.   Policy Teams to Debate Alternative Energy Next Season

  INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The National Federation of State High School Associations announced today that the policy debate resolution for the 2008-2009 season reads: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase alternative energy incentives in the United States. “Ballots,” the NFHS explains, “were first sent to states, the District of Columbia, the National Forensic League, National Debate Coaches Association and the National Catholic Forensic League last August.
